What is an SEO Strategy?

This simple question confused me for a long time.

Looking at definitions online, they can be summarised as follows: “An SEO strategy is a plan to improve a website's search engine rankings to increase online visibility”.

Okay, soo the SEO strategy is a plan to do SEO?

Not super helpful.

The strategy for the game is to play the game.

Thanks for nothing.

Another aspect that confused me was a false assumption I held.

An assumption that there is one right way of doing SEO.

There’s not.

A SEO strategy is a strategy.

Meaning there are multiple other strategies as well.

That’s why all articles you read online go about it in different ways.

But as all strategies, even if there isn’t one right way, there are certainly better and worst strategies.

The one I will present here is for sure in the top percentile when it comes to effectiveness.

The strategy is based on the research Graphite did & is behind success stories like Webflow & Honey.

I’ve personally used the exact same strategy to multiply our clients traffic.

This is just to say that it works. In fact, it works pretty well.

But let’s get to it

I would define the SEO Strategy as a framework for ranking your content by understanding user intent along the customer journey & focusing on the 5% of SEO that drive 95% of the results.

Note that “ranking content” is not specific here.

Content can be e.g. a landing page, a feature page, an article or a free tool page.

Doesn’t matter.

It all boils down to the same framework.

This chapter will focus on teaching this underlying framework & the bigger concepts.

It will be a long but interesting chapter.

If you understand everything in here, you are good to go!

I hope you enjoy this!
